I fell in love with the All Stars fabric by Tula Pink when I was pregnant with my last baby. I bought the fabric with no idea as to what I was going to make (Anyone else guilty of buying fabrics just because you like them?!). And to tell you the truth, it was way out of my comfort zone. My wardrobe consists of blacks, blues and grays. I'm not one for bold and try to blend in as much as possible.
It was around the same time that I came across the pattern Crossroads by Jaybird Quilts.
I spent many months cutting but the project would continually be put on the back burner as more time sensitive projects needed finishing. I finished my first block around October 2019 and realized how much I loved the colors. I added Tula Pink Aegaen as the coordinating background fabric.
In February of 2020, I finally finished the hundreds of blocks needed for the king sized quilt! Around the same time, we got a puppy! Funny story- while I was working on putting the rows together and had them laying on the floor, the puppy came over and peed on the fabric. I wanted to die! I had already spent so many hours assembling and I didn't know what to do. I had never washed unfinished quilt blocks but there was only one way to find out! I took the plunge and put an entire row in the wash. It wasn't pretty. Yes, there was unraveling. But it's a funny to look back on now!
The top was finished in May of 2020 but didn't end up on my longarm for a few more months.
For quilting designs, I wanted something simple and didn't take away from the fabric itself. Tula Pink's fabrics, including this All-Star line, are particularly detailed. I found some simple ruler work that complimented the triangles. I also utilized the background in the coordinating triangles for some additional ruler work. I freemotion quilted around the fabric borders in a simple wavy feel. I love how it turned out!
The full quilt was finished and bound in October of 2020 and lives on my bed. I felt as a quilter, it was important for me to make my own quilt for my bed. I also wanted to tackle a king sized quilt because they are such beasts!
